Applied media research
More research

We looked at a study conducted by Neilsen in April 2012 on the multi screening habits that focuses on a wide market of 4 different countries; Germany, the UK, the US and Italy this enables us to get a wider few worldwide rather than just the UK. The resultswere shown in a graph in the presentation and are the result of the simultaneous use of a tablet while watching TV. I’ve drawn up a table in my own report to show what exactly these people were doing whilst on their tablets.

Applied media research
The research has begun! We have first looked into the case studies; ‘Alice for iPad’, ‘ Inside ‘ Take this lollipop’.  These are interactive stories that acquire audience participation. We used these within our polls, questionnaires and surveys in order to see how popular interactive story telling is. It seemed within our own research that interactive storytelling wasn’t that big an interest however our results are from very low numbers of the public and may not be efficient.

Tv Studio
The day arrived filming day! It all went great, I really enjoyed the role of floor manager, I felt our group was appropriately organised. What I felt could have been better was the guest as Alex told us that the guest wasn’t entirely fitting the brief, however being students I felt resources are limited as we don’t have much connection to experts or celebs. All said and done it was fun!

Applied Media Research
Our question is on the digital fiction factory, The group has had some mixed feeling about this subject but were all working together and meeting up to do the research. I’m beginning to worry about the presentation in the aspect of public speaking as I find it to be extremely nerve wrecking.

TV studio
Our TV studio deadline is coming up and we are finding it hard to get a guest that is suitable for the brief, I’ve been trying to get an actor Marquelle ward to come on and talk about his multiple talents that are both dancing and acting. However due to his schedule it’s very difficult for him to get time. So the time is ticking but we managed to get a professional rugby player who has time to do an interview, so the show has now changed to a sports theme. So Elicia our set designer is now running around looking for material to humour a sports theme. STRESS!

Digital Fiction Factory
Our first question was on The Digital Fiction factory.
‘The internet, social media and other opened systems have allowed for user generated content, crowd sourcing and other forms of audience participation to prevail in digital media but how do we translate these features into storytelling experiences without treading on the toes of the author?’
The presentation that Ian produced led me to be very intrigued in this question as The Digital Fiction factory is the type of organisation I would like to work for someday due. I like how the incorporate the audience, creative writes, producers and digital experts in order to create a story across a number of media platforms which can also be known to transmedia storytelling.

Media cultural studies
This lecture keeps getting more interesting, I love the views of Keith and I feel the theory is really helping me not just in his module but in all of them. We have a 2,000 word essay due in and I have already chosen my question and started some research on public service broadcasting.

TV studio update
The ideas we have come up with to for an interviewee was DJs, this came to mind as myself and other team mates have good connections to this area and it may be possible to get some famous names involved, Although through a tutorial with Alex and Trevor we discovered that this sort of guest would not be appropriate for the brief as the 2 minute demonstration at the end of the interview may be difficult due to lack of material.

Applied media research
This a new model introduced this year, we are taught how to research effectively in order to produce results that answer the questions we will be asked by industries. We then have an online presentation to present our research and answers. This is a module I’m slightly worried about however individual research is something I feel confident in, although with 5 people in a group I already feel nervous as it can be hard to get views across as sometimes I do feel stupid within a group of intellectual students.

Tv Studio Update
We have been put into groups to make our own daytime show that last 15 minutes. My role is the floor manager. Which means I’m the link between people on the floor and the director in the gallery ,I also manage and direct the floor staff to the directors orders. The other roles to be obtained by my group are Director, presenter, set designer and producer. I’m looking forward to the outcome of this project.
